Balys Giedraitis
Balys Giedraitis (born January 13, 1890 in Riga , † June 26, 1941 in Tscherwen , Belarusian SSR ) was a Lithuanian politician and military.
Life
From 1910 to 1915 he worked for the insurance company "Rossija" in Riga ( Latvia ). He took part in the First World War. In 1916 he graduated from the military school in Moscow . From 1918 he lived in Lithuania. In 1919 he was a volunteer in the Lithuanian Army and in 1923 he graduated from college courses for officers. From 1924 to 1927 he was Lithuanian military attaché in Czechoslovakia , from 1927 to 1930 in Riga. From 1930 to 1934 he was then Defense Minister of Lithuania in the 15th government, headed by Juozas Tūbelis . He was arrested by the Soviet authorities after the Soviet occupation of Lithuania. He spent his imprisonment in Kaunas prison and from 1941 in Minsk . He was shot dead by the NKVD in a massacre in Cherven.
