Grupo Bancolombia is a financial organization founded in Colombia in 1945 with an operations center in Medellín . It is the largest bank in Colombia in terms of assets and equity, and one of the largest credit institutions in South America, as well as one of the largest publicly traded companies on the subcontinent. The Bancolombia banking group is controlled by the holding company Grupo Sura ( Grupo de Inversiones Suramericana ).
Infrastructure
Bancolombia has an approximately 20 percent market share in the Colombian banking sector and has a strong presence in the corporate finance , mortgage , government , retail and medium- sized companies segments . In addition, Bancolombia owns El Salvador's largest bank Banagrícola , offshore banking subsidiaries in Panama , Peru , the Cayman Islands , Puerto Rico and an agency in Miami , Florida .
Bancolombia serves its customers through Colombia's largest distribution network with 1,090 branches and 4,310 ATMs. The Banagrícola division has a further 100 branches in El Salvador. The group was founded in 1998 as a result of a merger between Banco de Colombia and Banco Industrial Colombiano .
