Horodyschtsche ( Ukrainian Городище ; Russian Городище Gorodishche ) is a city with 13,600 inhabitants (as of 2019) in the center of Ukraine .
The city is located in Cherkassy Oblast on the bank of the Vilschanka , a 106 km long right tributary of the Dnieper and is the administrative seat of Horodyschtsche Raion . The village of Nabokiw ( Набоків ) also belongs to the municipality .
The writer Petro Hulak-Artemowskyj was born in Horodyschtsche in 1790 and his nephew, the opera composer and singer Semen Hulak-Artemowskyj, was born in 1813 . In his honor a museum was founded in the village.
