Schaschkiw ( Ukrainian Жашків ; Russian Жашков Schaschkow ) is a Ukrainian city with 14,146 inhabitants (2014) in Cherkassy Oblast , in the center of Ukraine . The city is the administrative seat of Shashkiv Raion .

Shashkiv is located in Cherkassy Oblast in Shashkiv Raion, the administrative seat of which it is. The village is located on the Torch , a small tributary of the Hirskyj Tikytsch . Kiev is 137 km as the crow flies northeast and Cherkassy 143 km (east) of Shaschiw.

Zhashkiv bordered to the north Skybyn , on the east by Teterivka , to the south Mariika and east to Lemishchykha .

history
History of the city of Shashkiv
Shashkiv was founded in 1636 and was also mentioned for the first time in that year. During the Second World War, the city was occupied by the Axis powers from July 19, 1941 to October 7, 1944. In 1956 Shashkiv was granted city status.
Buildings
Numerous structures have been built in Shashkiv since independence. Among other things, five general education schools, six kindergartens, a music school , a youth center, a technical training center, hospitals , five pharmacies , two cultural centers, a stadium, a cinema , three libraries , a historical museum , several banks , two Orthodox churches and a prayer house.
In the city there is a monument to Lenin and a monument in honor of Taras Shevchenko . There are also memorials in honor of those who fell in the Afghan war , for the victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and the Holodomor .

Football club
In Shashkiv there is the football club "Kolos", which currently plays in the second "Cherkasnoyi League". Since 2002 there has been a junior soccer school that promotes and supports talented players.

Shashkiv is on the Ukrainian M 05 highway , which runs from Kiev to Odessa and in this section also forms the European route 95 . In October 2004 it was opened continuously as a four-lane motorway.
Schaschkiw is also on the T2405, which leads from Schaschkiw to Ozirna, and on the T2403, which runs from Oradivka to Moshny.
