Band of Susans was a New York rock band .

history

The name "Band of Susans" came about because two members were named Susan when it was founded in 1986.

The formation's first EP, Blessing and Curse (1987), was released on Robert Poss ' own label Trace Elements , after which they signed a deal with Mute Records . Hope Against Hope followed in 1988 . After the album was out, Rogers, Lyall and Tallman left Bands of Susans and were replaced by Karen Haglof and Page Hamilton . After Love Agenda (LP) and a Peel Sessions EP, the two new members also left the band, but Anne Husick and Mark Lonergan joined the group. In this formation three albums and one EP were created.

As the last released production, Ahead appeared on a collection of wire covers.

After the breakup in 1996, Poss and Stenger played with Bruce Gilbert as GilbertPossStenger. After that, Poss went solo and focused on producing.

style

The music is characterized by a full sound (three guitars) and a more conventional song structure (Poss was a big fan of the Rolling Stones and covered Child of the Moon and Paint It Black ). Band of Susans are involved in the no-wave scene that spawned Sonic Youth and Glenn Branca .
