The Bank CIC (Switzerland) AG (until 2007 Bank CIAL (Switzerland) ), based in Basel is a universal bank active Swiss foreign bank .
Its core business includes commercial banking as well as asset management and related financial services. The banking institution was founded in 1909 and, through the CIC, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the French cooperative banking group Crédit Mutuel , where it is part of international private banking .
The bank employs over 350 people and at the end of 2017 had total assets of 8 billion Swiss francs. In addition to its headquarters in Basel, it has offices in Friborg , Geneva , Lausanne , Lugano , Neuchâtel , Sion , St. Gallen and Zurich .
history
The bank was founded in 1909 as a Basel branch of the Banque d'Alsace et de Lorraine (BAL), founded in Strasbourg in 1871 by banks from Switzerland and France . In 1919, the bank moved from Aeschenvorstadt to the market square , where the headquarters have been next to the town hall ever since .
In 1931, the BAL and the Société Alsacienne de Crédit Industriel et Commercial , founded in Strasbourg in 1919, merged and henceforth operate jointly as Crédit Industriel d'Alsace et de Lorraine ; short CIAL . In 1971, the second branch in Switzerland was opened in Lausanne, followed by seven more over the years.
In 1984 the Swiss branch was converted into a stock corporation under Swiss law under the name Bank CIAL (Switzerland) . The name change to Bank CIC (Schweiz) AG took place at the beginning of 2008.
