BTV was founded in 1904 as a stock corporation by the kk privileged Allgemeine Verkehrsbank from Vienna and emerged from, among other things, a major Innsbruck private bank. In the interwar period, BTV took on further Tyrolean banking institutions and built up a strong market position in Tyrol.
