Bao'an ( Chinese  寶安 區  /  宝安 区 , Pinyin Bǎo'ān qū ) is the westernmost district of the southern Chinese sub-provincial city ​​of Shenzhen . The district lies outside the special economic zone in the northwest of the city and borders the districts of Nanshan and Futian in the south, Longgang in the east and Dongguan in the north. It has an area of ​​723 km². At the end of 2012, a registered population of 349,600 and a resident population of 2,684,400 million were estimated.

The relief is flat in the west with alluvial plains between 3 and 80 meters above sea level. The west is mountainous, where with the Yintai Shan at 487 m is the highest point of the district.

Bao'an has a very dense transport network. There are the Shenzhen Airport , the Shenzhen North Station and the port in the area of the district. The high-speed line Guangshengaosu-Hong Kong , the Beijing Hongkong Macau highway , the Shenyang-Haikou highway and the lines 1, 4 and 5, the U-web Shenzhen lead over the area of Bao'an.

The district's seat of government is located in the Xin'an Street District. The six street districts Longhua, Guanlan, Dalang, Minzhi, Guanghu and Fucheng are administered by the "New District Longhua", the two street districts Guangming and Gongming by the "New District Guangming".
