Shenzhen Metro ( Chinese  深圳 地鐵  /  深圳 地铁 , Pinyin Shēnzhèn dìtiě ) is the subway in the southern Chinese city ​​of Shenzhen ( Guangdong Province ).

The subway opened on December 28, 2004 , making Shenzhen the eighth city in China to have a subway (after Beijing , Hong Kong , Tianjin , Shanghai , Guangzhou , Dalian and Wuhan). In its first phase, the subway system comprised two lines crossing each other in the city center (line 1 with fifteen stations and line 4 with five stations), which together had a route length of 21.5 km. As of summer 2019, eight lines with a length of 286 kilometers and 198 stations were in operation. The long-term plan provides for 20 lines with 753 kilometers with the goal that in 2025 more than 65% of all passenger transport will take place with public transport and 45% with rail-bound transport.

Lines in operation

line 1

Line 1 connects the border crossing to Hong Kong in the Luohu district with the east side of Shenzhen Airport , and crosses the west of the city in a west-east direction. The first expansion section of this line, which led from Luohu to the amusement park "Window of the World", went into operation on December 28, 2004 and covered a length of 17.4 kilometers with 15 stations. On September 28, 2009, the extension to Shenzhen University with three additional stations was inaugurated over 3.4 kilometers, and on June 15, 2011 the extension to the airport with 20.2 kilometers and 12 stations was inaugurated. So today it has a total length of 41 kilometers and 30 stations. 15 of these stations have connections to other subway lines or are under construction.

Line 2

Line 2 runs east to west and connects Shekou in Nanshan District with Xinxiu in east Luohu District. The construction phase 1 of this line comprised the distance between the stations Chiwan and Window of the World with a length of 15.5 kilometers and 12 stations. It went into operation on December 28, 2010. On June 28, 2011, construction phase 2 from Window of the World to Xinxiu was opened, which expanded the line to 29 stations and 35.8 kilometers. 14 of these stations have connections to other underground lines or are under construction.

On September 21, 2015, the State Commission for Development and Reform approved an extension of Line 2 to the east. Section 3 of this line is to lead from Xinxiu to the Liantang Ost station, be 3.9 kilometers long and have 3 stations. The investment is expected to be 3.2 billion yuan and the construction period is estimated from 2015 to 2019.

This line is operated with six-car type A vehicles and has been expanded for a top speed of 80 km / h.

Line 3

Line 3 connects the city center with the northeastern outskirts in the Longgang district . The first section between the Caopu and Shuanglong stations went into operation on December 28, 2010 and comprised 16 stations over 25.1 kilometers. On June 28, 2011, the second section between the Caopu and Yitian stations went into operation, so line 3 grew to 30 stations and 41.7 kilometers in length.

On September 21, 2015, the State Commission for Development and Reform approved an extension of line 3 southwards by 1.5 kilometers and one station to the duty-free zone. The investment for this should amount to one billion yuan, the construction period was estimated from 2015 to 2019. In the east, Line 3 from Shuanglong station is to be extended by 9.4 kilometers and seven stations, for which 6.8 billion yuan is to be invested. The extension is to be built from 2016 to 2020.

This line is operated with six-car type B vehicles and has been expanded for a top speed of 100 km / h.

Line 4

Line 4 runs north to south through Shenzhen. Construction section 1 of Line 4 between the Fumin and Children's Palace (Shaoniangong) stations was opened on December 28, 2004. On June 20, 2007, a one-kilometer extension south to the Futian border crossing was released. On June 16, 2011, the northern extension to Qinghu was put into operation, so that the line is 20 kilometers long and has 15 stations.

On September 21, 2015, the State Commission for Development and Reform approved an extension of Line 4 to the north. Section 3 of this line will run from Qinghu to Niuhu, be 10.6 kilometers long and have eight stations. The investment is expected to be 9.6 billion yuan and the construction period is estimated from 2015 to 2019.

This line is operated with six-car type A vehicles and has been expanded for a top speed of 80 km / h.

Line 5

Line 5 starts in the west of the city area (Qianhaiwan station) and runs in a loop north around the city center, serves the Shenzhen North station and runs from there to the southeast of the city area (Huangbeiling station). It has a length of 40 kilometers and 27 stations. Operations started on June 22, 2011.

On September 21, 2015, the State Commission for Development and Reform approved an extension of Line 5 to the south. Construction phase 2 of this line will run from Qianhaiwan to Chiwan, be 7.6 kilometers long and have 7 stations. The investment is expected to be 7.1 billion yuan and the construction period is estimated from 2016 to 2019.

This line is operated with six-car type A vehicles and has been expanded for a top speed of 80 km / h.

Line 7

Line 7 starts northwest of the city center (Xili Lake station) and runs in a loop south around the city center, touches the border with Hong Kong at the Huanggang border crossing and runs from there to the northeast of the city center (Tai'an station). It has a length of 30.3 kilometers and 28 stations. Operations started on October 28, 2016.

Line 9

Line 9, 25.3 kilometers in length and 22 stations, runs from east to west, tangentially around the city center of Shenzhen. This line went into operation on October 28, 2016.

On September 21, 2015, the State Commission for Development and Reform approved an extension of Line 9 to the east. Section 2 of this line is to lead from Hongshuwan to Hanghai Road, be 10.7 kilometers long and have 10 stations. The investment is expected to be 9.1 billion yuan and the construction period is estimated from 2015 to 2019.

This line is operated with six-car type A vehicles and has been expanded for a top speed of 80 km / h.

Line 11

Line 11 with a length of 51.9 kilometers and 18 stations runs from the city center in Futian via the airport to the north-western outskirts of Shenzhen (Bitou station). It was put into operation on June 28, 2016. At its northern end there is said to be a transition to the Dongguan subway system .

Lines under construction or planning

Line 6

The first construction phase of line 6 with a length of 37.2 kilometers from the north station to Songgang in the northwest of the city area was approved by the State Commission for Development and Reform on April 29, 2011. On September 21, 2015 the second construction phase from the North Station to the Science Museum in the city center. This section was to cover a further 11.5 kilometers with 6 stations, the investment was 7.7 billion yuan. The construction time was estimated from 2016 to 2020. At its northern end there is said to be a transition to the Dongguan subway system .

On July 7, 2017, the State Development and Reform Commission approved the construction of a branch on Line 6 between Zhilin and Zhongshan University Stations. The 6.4-kilometer branch line with 3 stations has been budgeted for 4.3 billion yuan and a construction period from 2017 to 2020 is estimated. This branch is to be operated with six-car type B vehicles and expanded for a maximum speed of 80 km / h.

Line 8

The construction of Line 8 with a length of 26.4 kilometers from Guomao in the city center to Xiaomeisha on the southern coast of Shenzhen was approved by the State Commission for Development and Reform on April 29, 2011.

Line 10

The construction of line 10 was approved by the State Commission for Development and Reform on September 21, 2015. It should lead from the extreme south of Shenzhen on the border with Hong Kong (Futian border crossing station) to the north (Pinghu Center station), be 29.9 kilometers long and have 24 stations. Investments of 28.6 billion yuan and construction time from 2015 to 2020 were estimated.

This line is to be operated with six-car Type A vehicles and expanded for a top speed of 80 km / h.

Line 12

On July 7, 2017, the State Development and Reform Commission approved the construction of Line 12 between Zuobaotai and Haishang Tianyuan East stations; it should connect the west of Shenzhen ( Shekou ) with the northwest and run parallel to the coast. A budget of 38.1 billion yuan has been budgeted for the 40-kilometer line with 29 stations and a construction period from 2017 to 2021. This line is to be operated with six-car Type A vehicles and expanded for a top speed of 80 km / h.

Line 13

On July 7, 2017, the State Development and Reform Commission approved the construction of Line 13 between Shenzhen Bay Port on the south coast and Shangwu North; it should run in a north-south direction. The 23-kilometer line with 14 stations has been budgeted for 21.5 billion yuan and a construction period from 2017 to 2021. This line is to be operated with eight-car Type A vehicles and expanded for a top speed of 100 km / h.

Line 14

On July 7, 2017, the State Development and Reform Commission approved the construction of Line 14 between Gangsha North and Shatian stations; it should connect the city center of Shenzhen with the outskirts in the northeast. A budget of 43 billion yuan has been budgeted for the 51.9-kilometer line with 14 stations and a construction period from 2017 to 2021. This line is to be operated with eight-car Type A vehicles and expanded for a maximum speed of 120 km / h.

Line 16

On July 7, 2017, the State Development and Reform Commission approved the construction of Line 16 between Dayun and Tiantou stations; it is said to connect in the outskirts in the northeast ( Longgang and Pingshan ). A budget of 27.5 billion yuan has been budgeted for the 27.6 kilometer long line with 23 stations and a construction period from 2018 to 2022. This line is to be operated with six-car Type A vehicles and expanded for a top speed of 80 km / h.
