Long-term plan for the line network

The Shenyang Metro is the subway system of the megacity Shenyang , in the northeast Chinese province of Liaoning in China . It currently comprises three lines, and an expansion to at least ten lines is planned in the long term.

Lines

The trunk line 1 was opened on September 27, 2010 after a trial run of almost one year. It crosses the inner districts of Shenyang from east to west with a length of 27.8 kilometers and serves 22 stations.

Line 9 opened on May 25, 2019. It comprises 23 stations, the end stations being Nujiang Gongyuan (怒江 公园, Nujiang Park) and Jianzhu Daxue (建筑 大学, University of Architecture). At the moment of opening there were two transfer stations. Construction began on March 22, 2013, with a budget of 17.9 billion yuan . When the Shenyang subway network is completed, Line 9 will have 11 interchange stations.

Building history and course

Shenyang was one of the first Chinese cities with a desire to build a subway around 1940. The later central government, however, first supplied the larger cities of Beijing and Tianjin from 1965, and Shanghai was also brought forward until Shenyang could finally start construction in 2005. Much time was wasted on the discussion about the construction of a level S-Bahn , which, however, was rejected as unsuitable for the densely built-up urban area.

Construction of line 1 began on November 18, 2005 and was even able to open 3 months before the expected completion in December 2010. Its cost was the equivalent of around $ 1.1 billion.

Construction of line 2 began in November 2006. With a length of 21.9 kilometers and 19 stations, it creates the north-south connection and forms a cross with line 1. Completion was planned for 2010, after delays it opened on January 9, 2012.

On March 22, 2013, construction work began on lines 9 and 10, which were supposed to add two tangential lines to the cross. After the end of construction phase 1, the two lines should have 60 stations together and be 79.1 kilometers long. The estimated investment for the two lines was 47.7 billion yuan .

Further network planning

In the final expansion of the first phase, the subway system is to have two more routes in addition to the two cross-like routes, which will run through the city from southwest to northeast and from northwest to southeast. A ring section with a diameter of approx. 5 kilometers is planned to link all lines and independent cross connections. This route planning with initially five lines is planned and approved in the medium term.

The plans that are still open in the future provide for the creation of further lines so that the underground system would have a total route length of 182.5 kilometers.
