The subway Hohhot or Metro Hohhot ( Chinese呼和浩特 地铁Pinyin Hūhéhàotè dìtiě ) is the subway network of the city of Hohhot in the Chinese autonomous region of Inner Mongolia . It went into operation at the end of 2019 with the first line opening. An expansion to five lines with a total length of 155 kilometers was approved in 2015 with the aim that public transport would have a share of 50% of total traffic in Hohhot in 2020, and the subway a share of 15%. In 2018, however, the expansion plans were discarded.
Lines in operation
line 1
Line 1 runs through the city from east to west. The first construction phase of Line 1 leads from the Jinhai Industrial Park via the East Railway Station to the White Pagoda and Hohhot Airport . For the original planning of the route with a length of 23.2 kilometers with 19 stations, investments of 15.58 billion yuan were approved on April 15, 2015 by the State Commission for Development and Reform . A construction period from 2015 to 2019 was estimated. The tunnel construction work was completed on November 26, 2018 - 156 days earlier than planned, the opening of the line - now 21.7 kilometers in length and 20 stations - took place on December 29, 2019. This made Hohhot the 38th city in mainland China to open a subway.
Lines under construction or planning
Line 2
The first section of line 2 is to run from Xindian East to Maoshengying. On April 15, 2015, the State Commission for Development and Reform approved investments totaling 18.3 billion yuan for the 28.2-kilometer route with 24 stations . A construction period from 2016 to 2020 was estimated. The opening for trial operation is scheduled for mid-2020.
Lines 3, 4 and 5
The construction of the lines planned in 2015 was canceled in 2018 due to the high debt of the city of Hohhot.
