The Changsha Subway ( Chinese长沙 地铁Pinyin Chángshā dìtiě ) is the subway network of the city of Changsha in the Chinese province of Hunan . Its first line opened in 2014, and three lines will be in operation as of summer 2019. An expansion to seven lines with a total length of 260 kilometers is being planned; in the long term, 12 lines with a total length of 456 kilometers are planned.

Lines in operation

line 1

Line 1 runs on the east side of the Xiang Jiang from north to south. The first 23.55 km long section with 20 stations has been under construction since December 26, 2010 and has been in operation since June 28, 2016. It starts at the bus station in the north and leads to Wuyi Square, where there is a connection to Line 2, and continues south, where it serves the Railway University and the provincial government, to the terminus on Wanjiali Street.

The construction of a 9.93 km long, five-station northern extension to Caixia Road in Xiangxiu was approved by the State Commission for Development and Reform on March 15, 2017 . 5.3 billion yuan has been budgeted for this.

Line 2

Line 2 runs from west to east and crosses under the Xiang River . Construction of the first 22.3 km long section with 19 stations began on September 28, 2009. In November 2013, the first test drive took place in the two tunnels. Another test drive, during which the full loading of the train with sandbags was simulated, ended successfully at the beginning of March 2014. The company opened on April 29, 2014. The route runs from the bus station in the west of the city via the financial and economic institute, Orange Island in the Xiang River, Wuyi Square and the train station in the city center to the South Railway Station. At Wuyi-Platz you can change to Line 1.

On December 28, 2015, the first 4.6 kilometer extension went into operation.

A further 14.7 kilometers with eleven stations to the west to the Jinqiao Transportation Hub was approved by the State Commission for Development and Reform on March 15, 2017. For this, 9.5 billion yuan has been budgeted and a construction time is estimated until 2021.

Line 4

The 33.5 kilometer long line 4 runs from northwest to southeast and has 25 stations. From Purui Street, the line goes through Hunan Normal University, Sports Park and South Railway Station to Guihua Street. It opened on May 26, 2019. When it was approved, construction costs of 21.9 billion yuan were budgeted and a construction period from 2013 to 2017.

An extension of 14.3 kilometers with eight stations to the north to Lianjiang Road was approved by the State Commission for Development and Reform on March 15, 2017. For this, 6.8 billion yuan has been budgeted and a construction time is estimated until 2022.

Lines under construction or planning

Line 3

Line 3 is to run from southwest to northeast and in its first phase of construction will be 35.6 kilometers long and have 25 stations. The construction of this phase was approved in 2012 by the State Commission for Development and Reform. Investments of 23.6 billion yuan were budgeted and a construction phase from 2012 to 2016 was estimated.

Line 5

Line 5, 22.7 km long, will run from south to north and have 18 stations. The terminus is Panlong Street - Shidai Street. When it was approved, construction costs of 15.7 billion yuan were budgeted and a construction period from 2014 to 2018.

An extension of 3.6 kilometers with two stations to the north to Weisan Strasse was approved on March 15, 2017 by the State Commission for Development and Reform. A budget of 1.4 billion yuan has been budgeted for this, and construction is expected to take until 2022.

Line 6

Line 6 is to be 48.7 kilometers long and have 32 stations. It is to be built in three sections and connect Meixihu with Changsha-Huanghua Airport . For this venture, the State Commission for Development and Reform budgeted construction costs of 36.4 billion yuan in 2017 and a construction period until 2022.

Line 7

The first construction phase of line 7 is to be 21.6 kilometers long, have 18 stations and lead south from the northeastern part of the city center. For this project, the State Commission for Development and Reform budgeted investments of 18.1 billion yuan in 2017 and a construction period until 2021.
