Bao Zunxin
Bao Zunxin ( Chinese 包 遵 信 , Pinyin Bāo Zūnxìn , W.-G. Pao Tsun-hsin ) ( September 1937 - October 28, 2007 ) was a Chinese historian and dissident who, due to his participation in the protests at the Tiananmen Place was imprisoned.
biography
Bao graduated from Beijing University in 1964 . He worked in the History Faculty of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and taught at Beijing Normal University .
Bao supported the pro-democracy demonstrations in Tiananmen Square in 1989. He signed a petition postulating that China was still ruled by an emperor. The petition used the term emperor as a synonym for the head of the Chinese Communist Party , Deng Xiaoping .
Following the Tiananmen Square massacre , Bao was arrested and charged with counter-revolutionary propaganda and incitement . For supporting the pro-democracy movement, Bao was sentenced to five years in prison, from which he served three and a half years until his release in 1992.
Bao died of a cerebral haemorrhage on October 28, 2007, at the age of 70.
