The Beijing University of Education ( Chinese  北京 师范大学 , Pinyin Běijīng Shīfàn Dàxué , English Beijing Normal University ) is a University of Education in Beijing , People's Republic of China, founded in 1902 . It is one of the best universities for humanities and one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China. Peking University of Education is one of the universities in Project 211 and had around 18,500 students in 2012.

In the early 20th century, institutions that mainly trained school teachers were called "normal schools". This designation remained in the official institution name even after it received university status and offered courses in various areas.

history

The university was founded in 1902 as an educational faculty of the Imperial Capital University in Beijing on the initiative of the Qing Dynasty . In 1908 the faculty was upgraded to an independent university. After the founding of the Republic of China, the name was changed again to Beijing Normal College. The first post-graduate courses were introduced in 1920, and women were also admitted the following year. In 1923 the college took on the name it still bears today. The university was known for its openness from an early age, and its students played an important role in both the May Fourth Movement and the protests in Tian'anmen Square .

Education

Today Beijing Pedagogical University is the leading institution of its kind in China. In philosophy, history and geography, it is consistently listed among the five best universities in the country and in rankings among the 50 best universities in Asia. Bachelor's degree programs are offered for 58 subjects, Master’s degree programs exist for 36 subjects with 166 specializations, and the university also has the right to award doctoral degrees in 24 disciplines . The university has an annual research budget of over 100 million Yuan Renminbi and includes 74 research laboratories and facilities.

The central campus is located in the Haidian District of Beijing, not far from the government district. The city of Zhuhai in the southern province of Guangdong is home to a satellite campus.
