Barbara Borg

Barbara Elisabeth Borg (born December 26, 1960 ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Barbara Borg studied classical archeology , philosophy and geology at the University of Bochum between 1981 and 1985 , and at the University of Göttingen from 1985 to 1990 , where she replaced philosophy with ancient history . In 1990 he completed his doctorate in Göttingen, supported by a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation . The subject of the dissertation was “ Mummy portraits . Chronology and cultural context ”. Borg was then able to travel to the Mediterranean region with the help of the travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute (DAI). In 1993, Borg became a research assistant at the Archaeological Institute of Heidelberg University . From 1997 to 1999 she was on leave and, thanks to a habilitation grant from the German Research Foundation, worked on her habilitation, which took place in Heidelberg in 1999. The theme was “The Logos of Myth. Allegories and Personifications in Early Greek Art ”. After her habilitation , Borg became a university lecturer in Heidelberg. From 2002 to 2004, Borg acted as director of the archaeological institute there, representing the chair holder Tonio Hölscher . In late 2004 she was appointed Professor of Classics in the Department of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Exeter .

Borg is a corresponding member of the DAI, a member of the Advisory Board of the Göttingen Forum for Classical Studies and has been a member of the Academia Europaea since 2012 .
