Barbara Schwarze (* 1951 ) is a German professor for gender and diversity studies at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences , Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science .

Live and act

Barbara Schwarze studied sociology , education and psychology at Bielefeld University from 1970 to 1975 and graduated with a diploma in sociology. Between 1976 and 1990 she was a research assistant in a model test of the Federal-State Commission for Educational Planning and Research Funding (BLK) for student advice for universities in Münster , and from 1992 to 1994 she was a consultant for equal opportunities in the women's office at Osnabrück University . At the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences from 1994 to 1997, she carried out the federal-state pilot project "Women in engineering studies at universities of applied sciences - gender-specific aspects in teaching and studies" as scientific director. From 1996 to 2000 she headed the coordination office of the nationwide initiative “Women give technology new impetus” of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Deutsche Telekom AG and the Federal Employment Agency . From 1999 to 2002 she was head of the office in the context of the “Information Society Forum” of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology . From 2000 to 2005 she was the managing director of the association “Women give technology new impulses” and the “Competence Center Women in Information Society and Technology”.

Barbara Schwarze has been a professor for gender and diversity studies at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences since 2005. One of her focal points is career choice and, in particular, the dismantling of gender stereotypes and classic role models. In cooperation with more than 40 companies and lecturers in the faculty, she has been committed to the topic of women in MINT courses for many years and has developed the Lower Saxony technical center for this purpose.

As part of the G20 presidency of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2017, Barbara Schwarze participated in the run-up to the W20 dialogue process, the aim of which was to anchor demands for women worldwide in the G20 final document.

Volunteering

Schwarze is involved as a member of the Presidium of Initiative D21, a nationwide association of around 170 companies in the information and communication technology sector, in the D21 key areas of "Digital Integration" and "Digital Competence".

In an honorary capacity, she has been chairwoman of the Competence Center Technology-Diversity-Equal Opportunities in Bielefeld since 2005 .

As chairwoman of the advisory board, Barbara Schwarze supports the WoMen-Power-Kongress of the Hannover Messe Industry.

She is a member of the VDI and VDE engineering associations and a juror for research and innovation projects in the field of gender, diversity and young skilled workers.
