Barbara Marx Sinatra (born March 10, 1927 in Bosworth , Missouri - † July 25, 2017 in Rancho Mirage , California ; born Barbara Blakeley ) was an American model and showgirl . She became known as the fourth and last wife of Frank Sinatra .

Life

Barbara Blakeley was born in Bosworth, Missouri, in 1927 as one of four siblings. She grew up in Wichita . In the mid-1940s she married Robert Harrison Oliver, with whom they had a child. However, the marriage ended in divorce after a few years.

In the 1950s Blakeley first achieved fame as a showgirl in Las Vegas and as a model for fashion designer Richard Blackwell . In Las Vegas she met the actor and comedian Zeppo Marx , whom she married on September 18, 1959. After fourteen years, the marriage ended in divorce in 1973.

Three years after her marriage to Marx, she married the singer, actor and entertainer Frank Sinatra on July 11, 1976. It was Sinatra's fourth and longest-running marriage. The couple stayed together until his death on May 14, 1998.

Sinatra and her husband founded the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center in Rancho Mirage in 1986 . The facility, which is part of the Betty Ford Center, cares for young victims of psychological, physical and sexual violence.

In 1998 Sinatra was awarded a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. In May 2011, her biography was published under the title Lady Blue Eyes: My Life With Frank . Barbara Sinatra last lived in Rancho Mirage, where she died on July 25, 2017 at the age of 90 after a long illness. Her grave is next to that of her husband Frank Sinatra in the Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City .

In 2003 the film The Night We Called It a Day was released about the life of Frank Sinatra. Barbara Sinatra was played by Melanie Griffith , her husband was played by Dennis Hopper .
