Life path

Barbara Suchner comes from a middle-class family. Her father, an engineer with a doctorate and operations director of Ferngas AG Lower Silesia, died in 1935. In 1942 Barbara Suchner began studying philology at the University of Breslau . After being expelled from her Silesian homeland, she continued her studies at the University of Passau and the University of Erlangen . In 1950 she passed the pharmaceutical state examination. As a pharmacist , she and her husband ran a pharmacy in Günzburg for 25 years and in Bad Griesbach im Rottal for over two decades . She has lived in Tann since 1976 .

Literary work

Barbara Suchner wrote poetry as a high school graduate, but it was not until 1974 that she published her first volume of poetry. Since then, further volumes of poetry have been published by her, later also short stories and novels. Memories of her Silesian homeland pervade her literary work. With her diary sheets No angel falls from heaven , she found a wide readership, primarily among the Silesians. One of her best-known works is the book Lost Is Not a Word. Love letters from a difficult time (1941-1950) , a documentation of the correspondence with her classmate and later husband Werner Suchner, who had to spend many years in a Soviet captivity. For several decades she collected Silesian words, expressions and typical idioms and used them to create a Silesian dictionary and a book with Silesian idioms .

Barbara Suchner was involved in the Society of Poetry Friends for many years . From 1988 to 2003 she was their representative for Bavaria. In the lyric leaflets "Das Gedicht" (1985-2006), which she edited , she introduced German-language poets with selected poems.
