Barbara von Metzler

Barbara von Metzler (born December 6, 1941 in Dresden ; † January 24, 2003 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German patroness. She was the daughter of the Frankfurt banker Albert von Metzler and his wife Elisabeth. Her brother is the banker Friedrich von Metzler .

Life

Barbara von Metzler spent the first six years of her life in Dresden, her mother's hometown. In 1947 she returned to Frankfurt am Main with her children. There Barbara von Metzler graduated from the Schiller School in 1961 . After an apprenticeship as a bank clerk at Frankfurter Bank AG , she studied business administration at the Universities of Freiburg, Munich and Cologne from 1963 to 1967.

From 1968 to 1982 she worked as a business administration graduate in a managerial position at Treuarbeit AG (today PWC Deutsche Revision ). As one of the first women in Germany, she passed her exams as tax advisor in 1972 and as auditor in 1978 . Since 1982 she has been working as a self-employed tax advisor and auditor. Barbara von Metzler died in Frankfurt am Main in 2003 at the age of 61.

Services

Barbara von Metzler campaigned for numerous Frankfurt cultural institutions, above all for the Städelsche Museums-Verein and the administration of the Städelsche Kunstinstitut , which she headed from 1994 to 2000. In this capacity, she initiated the so-called “Favor” collection for the Städel Museum in 1996, with which more than 23 million D-Marks were raised in donations. She also worked on an honorary basis at the Frankfurt Historical Museum , the Dagmar Westberg Foundation, the Historical-Archaeological Society and the “Citizens Committee Paulskirche 1848”. As treasurer of the Frankfurt Citizens' Foundation (1989–1998), she pushed ahead with the renovation and operation of the Holzhausenschlösschen.

Awards

Barbara von Metzler has received several awards for her voluntary and patronage work: In November 2000, Frankfurt's Lord Mayor Petra Roth presented her with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . In 2001, the state of Hesse awarded her the Georg August Zinn Medal for her commitment to the Städel . In 2002 she received the plaque of honor from the city of Frankfurt am Main .
