Friedrich von Metzler

Friedrich von Metzler (born April 23, 1943 in Dresden ) is a German banker and patron in Frankfurt am Main .

Life

Friedrich von Metzler is the son of Albert (1898–1989) and Elisabeth von Metzler born. Kunze (1915-2012). Since 1971 he has been personally liable partner of the private bank B. Metzler seel. Sohn & Co. KGaA .

From 1986 to 1993, von Metzler was a member of the board of directors of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (FWB), the predecessor of which, the Old Stock Exchange , emerged in 1585 from a regular meeting of Frankfurt merchants. From 1989 to 1993 he was Chairman of the Board of Management of FWB and from 1990 to 1993 Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Frankfurter Wertpapierbörse AG / Deutsche Börse AG. In these offices he was one of the initiators for the conversion of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange into Deutsche Börse AG . The Frankfurt Stock Exchange was merged with the other public institutions Deutsche Terminbörse , Deutscher Kassenverein , Auslands-Kassenverein and Deutsche Wertpapierdaten-Zentrale to form the newly formed Deutsche Börse AG.

Of Metzler's son Jakob von Metzler was kidnapped and murdered by the student Magnus Gäfgen in 2002 at the age of eleven . The kidnapping case is the subject of the television film The Jakob von Metzler case . Friedrich von Metzler has two other children, a son and a daughter, who both work in the private bank Metzler.

At the end of May 2018, von Metzler withdrew from the board of directors of Metzler-Holding and the management of Bankhaus Metzler, but remained personally liable partner.

Honorary positions

Von Metzler is Deputy Chairman of the Administration of Dr. Senckenberg Foundation and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research .

Awards

2003 was honored by Metzler with the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class.

On September 5, 2004, von Metzler was made an honorary citizen of Frankfurt am Main .

In 2010, von Metzler was named “Science-oriented Entrepreneur of the Year” by the Association of University Lecturers for Business Administration (VHB). With this award, the VHB honors entrepreneurs and practitioners who have promoted communication between science and business in general and in particular the subject of business administration.

In 2011, von Metzler and his wife received the Georg August Zinn Medal from the State of Hesse. With this award, services to the common good in Hessen are recognized.

In 2011, von Metzler was awarded the Willy Pitzer Prize. He received the prize, endowed with 25,000 euros, for "his life's work, in which he extraordinarily promoted the foundation's idea and social commitment"

Sylvia and Friedrich von Metzler received the Maecenas Award 2012 from the working group of independent cultural institutes. V. - AsKI for their exemplary services in promoting cultural and social life in the city of Frankfurt am Main.

In 2014, the Handelsblatt accepted von Metzler into the 'Handelsblatt Hall of Fame'. Even the Manager Magazin picked Friedrich von Metzler 2014 in his Hall of Fame on.

In 2014 he received the Hessian Order of Merit .

In 2014 Friedrich von Metzler was awarded the Entrepreneur Prize of the Business Club Aachen Maastricht.

On June 20, 2017, he was awarded by the Initiative Deutscher Gründerpreis for his life's work.

On August 13, 2018, von Metzler was appointed Honorary Professor of the State of Hesse .

On May 8, 2019, von Metzler was the first to be awarded the Meritum Prize from the Deutsches Aktieninstitut for his life's work.
