Bargarh (also Baragarh ) is a city in the Indian state of Odisha .

It is the administrative seat of the district of the same name and the main town in Tehsil of the same name . 80,625 inhabitants live in Bargarh (2011 census).

Culture

Every year the eleven-day festival Dhanuyatra is held, during which the city and the surrounding villages represent a mythological story in the form of a huge open-air theater. The story of a rebirth of the god Krishna is told, who kills the tyrannical king Kansa .

traffic

Bargarh is on the national highways NH 6 and NH 201 to Bhawanipatna . With the railway there are connections towards Sambalpur and Luis Inga . Bargarh is also connected to the Hirakud Reservoir by a canal .
