Bariadi is a city in Tanzania . It is the capital of the Simiyu region and the administrative center of the Bariadi district .

geography

Bariadi has around 34,000 inhabitants and is located in northern Tanzania at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level, 140 kilometers northwest of Shinyanga . The climate in the city is tropical, Aw according to the effective climate classification . It rains an average of 850 millimeters per year, the months June to August are very dry. Average daily temperatures are between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius, with the hottest in October and the coolest in July.

In 2012, Bariadi was elevated to the status of a city council, making it its own constituency.

population

The Sukuma are the largest ethnic group, making up around 90 percent of the population. Almost half of the population are Christians .

  • Education: Since 2016, Bariadi has had a private primary school alongside the state school. Five secondary schools provide further education.
  • Health: The closest hospital is in Somanda. There is a health center in the city itself.
  • Communication: In 2019, the mobile network in Bariadi was upgraded to 4G .

  • Roads: The T36 national road runs through Bariadi from Shinyanga to Musoma and on to Kenya . The section from Bariadi to the north is paved (as of 2018).
