Barium tetraiodomercurate (II) is an inorganic chemical compound from the group of potassium compounds , iodine complexes and mercury compounds .
properties
Barium tetraiodomercurate (II) is a yellow to reddish deliquescent solid that is very soluble in water. The clear, yellowish, highly refractive concentrated aqueous solution (maximum density 3.485 g / cm 3 at 20 ° C) is used as an alkaloid reagent in microchemistry . In mineralogy it can also be used for the swim-sink preparation of mineral mixtures (Rohrbach's solution, according to Carl EG Rohrbach ) and for determining the density of minerals ( heavy liquid ), but it is highly toxic.
Extraction and presentation
Barium tetraiodomercurate (II) can be obtained analogously to potassium tetraiodomercurate (II) by reacting mercury (II) chloride or mercury (II) iodide with barium iodide .
