Barney Dreyfuss (born February 23, 1865 in Freiburg im Breisgau as Bernhard Dreyfuss ; † February 5, 1932 in New York , NY ) was an American entrepreneur and baseball pioneer of German origin.

His parents were Samuel Dreyfuss (* July 7, 1832; † September 18, 1896 Freiburg im Breisgau) and Fanny Goldschmidt (life data unknown).

After a bank apprenticeship in Karlsruhe, he emigrated to the USA in 1883 before being called up for military service and called himself Barney from then on. He lived in Paducah , Kentucky , with the Bernheim family, who were related to him through his grandfather Leon Bernheim. He worked in their whiskey distillery " Bernheim Brothers & Uri". Later he became their partner. The distillery and families moved to Louisville, Kentucky , in 1888 because Paducah was too small for the size of the company.

Barney Dreyfuss was extremely successful as a businessman and was considered unscrupulous. He was a pioneer of professional baseball and is considered the inventor of the " World Series " in US baseball. From 1900 to 1932 he was the owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball club . In 2008 he was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame .
