Baron Herbert of Castle Island , in the County of Kerry , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .

Award

The title was created on December 31, 1624 for the diplomat Edward Herbert . This barony was named after the Irish town of Castleisland . Edward Herbert owned lands there through his wife Mary Herbert (1575–1634). The title expired with the death of the 4th Baron on April 21, 1691.

The lands of the extinct barony eventually came to the Gage family, for whom the title Viscount Gage of Castle Island was created in 1720 .
