The Barrelhouse Jazzband Wien (also Barrelhouse Jazzband Vienna ) is an Austrian traditional jazz band that has existed since 1960.

history

The formation was founded in 1960 by Franzi Bilik , Peter Hofmann, Otti Kitzler, Othmar Gräfinger and Horst Bichler. Alfons Würzl had worked for the band with interruptions since 1961. Willi Meerwald had been a member of the band since 1963. Partly Bill Grah also belonged to the band.

In the 1960s the group performed in the Viennese jazz clubs Mausefalle , Adebar , Riverboat , Art Center , Atrium and Storyville , and since 1972 in Jazzland . From 1962, the Barrelhouse Jazzband Vienna toured through Denmark , the Federal Republic of Germany , the German Democratic Republic , Czechoslovakia , Hungary , Spain and Switzerland . In 1962 the first recordings were made at the Austrian amateur jazz festival .

The band won the competition at the Austrian Amateur Jazz Festival in 1964, 1965 and 1967 . Otti Kitzler (trumpet), Cord Dumrese (clarinet), Alfons Würzl (clarinet) and Horst Bichler (drums) received additional soloist prizes. Since then the band has been cultivating Chicago jazz . The group has recorded albums with traveling musicians such as Max Kaminsky and Wild Bill Davison since 1973 . On the album Blue Danube (1978) she also devoted herself to the Wienerlied .
