The Barry Way meanders through the Australian Alps .

The Barry Way is a connecting road in the southeast of the Australian state of New South Wales . It connects Kosciuszko Road and Alpine Way in Jindabyne with Snowy River Road in Willis on the border with Victoria .

course

The road branches off in Jindabyne from Kosciuszko Road to the south-southwest and crosses the Mowamba River . It passes through the settlement of Ingebyra and enters Pilot Wilderness Area .

There it crosses the Tongaroo River and leads along its banks to its confluence with the Snowy River . The Barry Way then follows the Snowy River downstream on its west bank. This is followed by crossings of the Moyangul River and other right tributaries of the Snowy River.

The road reaches the Victoria border and ends at the Willis settlement . To the south it continues the Snowy River Road (C608).

Road conditions

From Jindabyne to the entrance to the Pilot Wilderness Area south of Ingebyra, the Barry Way has two lanes and is paved. In the area of the Wilderness Area it is - like its continuation to the south in the Alpine National Park - unpaved. The road leads through wild, natural mountainous country, far from larger settlements.

Although the road offers wonderful views of the Snowy River and the surrounding mountains, travelers are advised to exercise caution: In the summer, sunshine can be expected and appropriate precautions should be taken. In winter, Barry Way may be closed for extended periods due to heavy snowfall and icing.
