The Barther Bodden is a large lagoon , also called Bodden , between the Zingst peninsula and the city of Barth on the mainland . It is part of the Darß-Zingster Boddenkette . The largest flowing water that flows into it is the small river Barthe .

Large parts of the Barther Bodden are less than two meters deep, so that shipping is only possible to a limited extent. Today it is almost exclusively limited to sport boat traffic and recreational boating. In the north is the Zingster Strom , the river-like part of the Bodden south of Zingst. This is where the deepest water in the Bodden is sometimes over six meters.

To the northwest are the two islands of Kirr and Barther Oie, known as important breeding grounds for gulls , terns , water birds and waders . These rise only a few centimeters above the water level of the Bodden and are closed to visitors. The Kirr is used as a pasture for cattle and is an important place to stay for the crane during the autumn migration .
