Bartholomeus Johannes Bijeveld (* 1713 ; † June 20, 1778 ) was the first Old Catholic bishop of Deventer from 1758 until his death .

Life

After the Utrecht Metropolitan Chapter and Archbishop Petrus Johannes Meindaerts had considered occupying a third bishopric for the Church of Utrecht so that after Dominique Varlet's death the apostolic succession could be passed on independently of papal decisions, they first decided to re-establish the Diocese of Leeuwarden . However, since the state authorities intervened against it, the Metropolitan Chapter decided in September 1757 to reintroduce the title of Bishop of Deventer, only as a titular seat without episcopal jurisdiction and without an episcopal seat in Deventer. Bijeveld, at that time a pastor in Rotterdam and a member of the Metropolitan Chapter, was appointed Bishop of Deventer by Meindaerts and was ordained bishop on January 25, 1758.

effect

After the death of Meindaerts, he consecrated the newly elected Archbishop of Utrecht, Gualtherus Michael van Nieuwenhuizen, together with Johannes van Stiphout , Bishop of Haarlem , on February 7, 1768 .

Bijeveld died on June 20, 1778, and was succeeded by Nicolaas Nelleman .
