Bartolomeo Cavarozzi (* 1590 in Viterbo ; † September 21, 1625 in Rome ) was an Italian painter of the early Baroque period .

Life

Bartolomeo Cavarozzi was a student of the architect and painter Giovanni Battista Crescenzi in Rome, and when he went to Spain in 1617, Cavarozzi followed him and worked in Madrid for a year, but then returned to Italy.

Bartolomeo Cavarozzi painted in his early creative period in the style of Cristofano Roncalli , who had also been Crescenzi's teacher. From 1610, however, he followed Caravaggio's style of painting , whose novel and realistic image design he took over. Because of this lasting influence he is counted among the so-called Caravaggists .

Bartolomeo Cavarozzi used his relationships with Cavarozzi, who came from a Roman patrician family, and was thus able to meet the demands of an increasingly liberalizing image market without having to forego the traditional patronage relationship. Selected works by Cavarozzi show that by consulting with Crescenzi he was able to adapt to the client's individual artistic requirements. This close relationship is said to have earned him the nickname "Bartolomeo del Crescenzi".

It can be assumed that Cavarozzi is the painter who created the figures in the paintings of the master of the Acquavella still life . If the thesis was accepted that this painter, who was not known by name, was Giovanni Battista Crescenzi, both would have even created pictures together.
