Basey is a Filipino municipality in the province of Samar on the island of Samar . It has 55,480 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 51 barangays . The community is described as partially urban and belongs to the first income bracket of the communities in the Philippines. Its neighboring communities are Pinabacdao and Santa Rita in the north, to the province of Eastern Samar in the east and Marabut in the south. In the south the community borders on the Gulf of Leyte . Basey is located about 59 southeast of the provincial capital Calbayog City and can be reached via the Maharlika Highway . The Sohoton Natural Bridge National Park with its numerous caves lies on the territory of the municipality .
