Basile Baltus de Pouilly (born January 2, 1766 in Metz , † January 13, 1845 in Brie-Comte-Robert ) was a French général de brigade during the coalition wars .

Career

Basil Guy Marie Victor Baltus de Pouilly was born on January 2, 1766 in Metz . He entered the artillery school in Metz in August 1780. He was assigned to an artillery regiment, as Sous-lieutenant in July 1781 and Capitaine in April 1791. He was then promoted to Chief d'escadron in the first regiment of light artillery. In March 1806, Baltus was promoted to colonel . He was appointed Baron of the Empire in January 1809. In March 1811, Baltus was promoted to Général de brigade . Baltus commanded the artillery in Hamburg in April 1815. He left the army on December 9, 1826, with the honorary rank of lieutenant-général, and died on January 13, 1845.

His name is immortalized on the triumphal arch in Paris in the 2nd column (BALTUS).
