history

The Bishop of Nancy-Toul , Charles-François Turinaz (1838-1918), ordered the construction of a new parish church in Nancy in 1889 in the district of Poincaré - Foch - Anatole France - Croix de Bourgogne near the city of Laxou . His private secretary Henri Blaise (1863–1920), who was also to become the first pastor, took over the implementation. The architect Antony Rougieux (1854–1906), a student of Julien Guadet, was responsible for the design and execution. The eclectic design based on Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre was made with neo-Romanesque and neo-Byzantine elements. A three-aisled building with a high crossing dome opens behind a north-facing double tower facade . The foundation stone was laid on June 9, 1902. The blessing of the Sacred Heart statue, which dominates the 45 meter high dome, took place on April 23, 1904. The work was completed in 1905.

Pope Pius X granted the church the rank of a minor basilica in September 1905, it was consecrated as Basilique Sacré-Cœur by Bishop Turinaz on November 15, 1905 and given to worship. The tintinnabulum and the umbraculum can be seen in the choir as symbols of the basilica .

Bishop Turinaz and Pastor Blaise were buried in the left and right transepts of the basilica.

organ

The organ built by Charles Didier-Van-Caster (1852–1906) was completed in 1907. It was inaugurated on May 30, 1907 by Charles-Marie Widor . This instrument has 48 registers spread over three manuals and pedals, and two 32-foot registers (Bourdon 32 and Contrabombarde 32).

The instrument was again blessed and inaugurated in 2019 after a restoration.
