Basil Hidber

Basilius Hidber (born November 23, 1817 in Mels , † July 17, 1901 in Bern ; resident in Mels) was a Swiss historian .

Hidber graduated from the St. Gallen Cantonal School . He studied philology and history at the universities of Bern , Jena and Leipzig . He worked as a German and history teacher. Hidber received his doctorate in Heidelberg in 1857 and habilitated in Bern in 1861. In 1868 he became associate professor, and in 1870 full professor for Swiss history and historical auxiliary sciences at the University of Bern. In 1895 he retired.
