Basilius Steidle
Basilius Steidle (born March 8, 1903 in Königsheim as Augustin Steidle , † February 19, 1982 in Beuron ) was a German Benedictine , university professor and patrologist .
Life
From 1914 to 1918 Steidle attended school in the Benedictine Abbey of Emaus (Prague), after which he lived in Württemberg from 1919 and passed his Abitur in Ravensburg. He began his novitiate in the Archabbey of Beuron in June 1923 , made his temporary profession in 1924 and his perpetual profession on August 15, 1927 . In 1924 he enrolled as a student at the Benedictine University of Sant'Anselmo in Rome, where he was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD . On July 2, 1929, he received the Abbey of Montecassino , the ordination of Abbot-Bishop Gregorio Diamare . When he returned to Beuron, he was a professor there from 1930 to 1952 at the University of Beuron (initially teaching dogmatics , from 1933 patrology). In 1940 the Reichsschrifttumskammer banned him from publishing. He did military service from 1943 to 1945. In 1952 he went to the Monastic Institute of St. Anselmo University in Rome as Professor of Patrology and Director, where he retired in 1968 . Basilius Steidle returned to his professed monastery in the Danube Valley and continued to do research until 1981. His oeuvre includes around 80 titles.
