Bassant Mohamed Awad Abdelsalem Hemida (born September 28, 1996 ) is an Egyptian sprinter .

Athletic career

Basnat Abdelsalam gained her first international experience in 2013 at the Arab Youth Championships in Cairo , where she won the gold medal in the 100-meter run in 12.26 seconds and ran silver in the 200 meters in 24.71 seconds. In the following year she won the Arab Junior Championships in Cairo in 12.13 s over 100 meters and won the silver medal over 200 meters in 25.21 s. In 2015, she finished sixth at the Junior African Championships in Addis Ababa in 12.50 s and was fourth in the Egyptian 4 x 100 meter relay in 48.32 s. In 2016 she won the silver medal behind the French Maroussia Paré at the U23 Mediterranean Championships in Tunis in 23.64 s and finished fourth over 100 meters in 11.72 s. Two years later she won the bronze medal over 100 meters at the U23 Mediterranean Championships in Jesolo in 11.62 seconds behind the Spaniard Paula Sevilla and Diana Vaisman from Israel. In addition, she won the silver medal over 200 meters behind the Frenchwoman Cynthia Leduc in 23.89 s . Then she was at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona in 23.47 s sixth over 200 meters and at the African Championships in Asaba , she was eliminated with 11.86 s in the 100-meter semifinals.

In 2019 she took part in the Summer Universiade in Naples for the first time , where she achieved seventh place with 11.53 s. Then she started at the Africa Games in Rabat and won the bronze medal over 100 meters behind the Ivorian Marie-Josée Ta Lou and Gina Bass from Gambia with a new national record of 11.31 seconds . Shortly afterwards she won the silver medal over 200 meters behind Bass in 22.89 s. Over 200 meters she qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 22.92 s .

In 2016, 2018 and 2019, Hemida became the Egyptian champion in the 100 and 200 meters.
