The bastion is a prominent and 2460 m high mountain in Queen Maud Land in East Antarctica . It rises 3 km west of the Mentzelberg in the Otto von Gruber Mountains .
It was discovered and named descriptively during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar researcher Alfred Ritscher .
