The building at Basteistraße 18 (also Villa Deichmann ) is a villa in Rüngsdorf , a district of the Bonn district of Bad Godesberg , which was built from 1900 to 1902. It is located above the banks of the Rhine (Von-Sandt-Ufer) at the end of a spur road from Basteistraße . The villa as well as the Deichmann'sche Remise opposite are listed as historical monuments .

history

The villa was built as a summer house based on a design by the architect and court builder Ernst von Ihne for the client Otto Deichmann (1838–1911), a Cologne banker. Otto Deichmann was one of the partners in the Deichmann & Compagnie bank. Before the building was even erected, a lining wall was built in August 1899 . In response to the building application from October 1899, the building permit for the villa including a gatehouse and an access road was granted in March 1900 . Once completed, Deichmann was in May 1902 or a roadside fence of the property as well as create and 1903 by the local architect George West a stable building (shed) at today Basteistraße (no. 31) and a greenhouse built. In 1911, the servants' room next to the entrance was enlarged, presumably again based on plans by his own.

During the Second World War , the villa was badly damaged by a bomb hit on July 20, 1944 and partially destroyed down to the foundation walls, with the rest of the building remaining habitable. The subsequent restoration was only provisional. It was not until 1984/85 - in the course of the entry of the villa in the list of monuments of the city of Bonn in autumn 1984 - the reconstruction of the destroyed part of the house and the reconstruction of its rooms in order to set up three apartments. In 1987, the repair of the gate that separates the villa park from Basteistraße followed. In 1992–95 the restoration was completed with the repair of the facade surfaces, the renewal of the roof covering and the reconstruction of the original chimney heads . At that time (as of 1995) the property was still owned by the Deichmann family, who also lived in part of the house. In the meantime, the Deichmann family, in cooperation with the monument protection authorities, has also extensively renovated the tea house on the bank wall, which, like the remise, is a copy of the main building.

architecture

The villa has two storeys in the country house style with decorative framework and the structure of the building is oriented towards the panorama of the Rhine. It is considered important for the silhouette of the Rüngsdorf Rhine front.
