Bathysolen nubilus is a bug from the family of the border bugs (Coreidae).
features
The bugs are 5.5 to 6.2 millimeters long. They can be recognized by their broad pronotum , which has no thorns and which has parallel margins. The scutellum has a pale tip and the first part of the antennae is comparatively broad; wider than the fourth link.
distribution and habitat
The species is distributed from the Mediterranean to the south of Scandinavia and the British Isles, as well as east across Asia Minor and the Middle East to Central Asia. In Central Europe the species occurs everywhere and is not uncommon in places. Various dry, sun-exposed habitats are populated with loose vegetation. Historically very rare in Great Britain, it can now be found more frequently in the south of England and East Anglia .
Way of life
The animals live on the ground, rarely climb imagines in warm weather on crops. They feed mainly on legumes (Fabaceae) and, in turn, on snail clover ( Medicago ). Both the adults and the nymphs have also been found among plant species from other families, such as Artemisia (family: Asteraceae ), although it remained unclear whether they also feed on these. Most likely, seeds that have fallen on the ground are sucked. The adults hibernate in sheltered places in the litter , often in the leaf and needle litter of woody plants. They are already active from March and can also be active in winter when the weather is good. The nymphs appear from June to August, adults of the new generation from July and August.
