Battle for the Sun is the sixth studio album by the international alternative rock band Placebo . It was released on June 5, 2009 under the label Play It Again Sam (PIAS).
Even before the album was released, the single of the same name was made available as a download on the band's website .
production
The album was produced by David Bottrill . He was assisted by James Brown, who had already produced the band's previous album, Meds .
Battle for the Sun is the first album to be recorded with the band's new drummer , Steve Forrest.
In an interview with BBC 6 Music , singer Brian Molko said that the band is working with new instruments such as springtime , trumpets and saxophones on their new album . In writing the material, they were influenced by bands like PJ Harvey and My Bloody Valentine . The album should be harder than its predecessor.
subjects
Frontman Brian Molko said of the album:
“We've made a record about choosing life, and choosing to live, about stepping out of the darkness and into the light. Not necessarily turning your back on the darkness because it's there, it's essential; it's a part of who you are, but more about the choice of standing in the sunlight instead. "
In German:
We made a record about the choice of life and the choice to live, about stepping out of the dark and into the light. Not necessarily to turn your back on darkness because it exists - it is essential; it's part of who you are - it's more about choosing to be in the sunlight instead.
The first single also describes this line of thought. The first stanza reads as follows:
