Batton Lash (born October 29, 1953 in Brooklyn , † January 12, 2019 in San Diego ) was an American comic book writer and editor.

Career

In 1979 he began writing and drawing Wolff and Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre , which first appeared as a weekly newspaper strip in The Brooklyn Paper and The National Law Journal . It was renamed Supernatural Law when it made the leap to full-length comic book stories under Lash's Imprint Exhibit A Press in 1994. It was later made available as a webcomic and a digital book.

He wrote Radioactive Man for Bongo Comics . For this he received an Eisner Award for the best humorous publication.

In March 2010, Lash worked with writer James D. Hudnall on an online comic criticizing President Barack Obama , "Obama Nation", on Andrew Breitbart's website BigHollywood.com.

In 2011, MSNBC commentator Lawrence O'Donnell and others criticized one of the strips as racist for caricaturing First Lady Michelle Obama and President Obama in a way that stereotypes African Americans .

He was nominated for two Harvey Awards in 2003 and won the Independent Book Publishers Association's Benjamin Franklin Award for Graphic Novel in 2009.

Lash died of brain tumors on January 12, 2019 at the age of 65.
