Baukje Galama

Barbara Anna Hildegonda "Baukje" Galama , also BAH Galama (born January 19, 1957 in Haskerdijken ), is a Dutch politician ( VVD ).

Galama grew up in Friesland and began her political commitment in 1994 as an alderman ( Wethouder ) of the Weststellingwerf municipality for the right-wing liberal VVD. After a defeat in the municipal council elections, she resigned from her municipal office in 1998. From 2001 to 2005 Galama was interim director of the welfare institution Stichting Welstad in Weststellingwerf. From 2003 to 2007 she was a member of the Provinciale Staten of Friesland . On July 1, 2005, she became mayor of the island municipality of Vlieland , where she was responsible for the 1150 residents there (and 400,000 tourists annually).

From September 1, 2009 to February 16, 2018, she succeeded Jur Stavast as mayor of the city of Stadskanaal near Groningen (about 32,000 inhabitants).
