Beelitz-Heilstätten treetop path

The Beelitz-Heilstätten treetop path was opened in 2015 as the first treetop path in Brandenburg on the site of the former women's lung sanatorium in Beelitz-Heilstätten , a district of the town of Beelitz in the Brandenburg district of Potsdam-Mittelmark . In addition to the actual treetop path, the Baumkronenpfad adventure area also includes an observation tower and a bistro and is operated by HPG Projektentwicklungs GmbH under the name "Baum & Zeit". In 2019, the extension of the treetop path is planned in a second construction phase.

The path

View from the path to the Alpenhaus

The 320 m long Beelitz-Heilstätten treetop path runs between its two entrances as a 2.2 m wide wooden walkway on a slightly curved steel structure at a height of between 17 and 23 m above ground. The western entrance is at the observation tower erected there, optionally barrier-free with an elevator or stairs . The path crosses the ruins of pavilion B IV of the women's lung sanatorium, the so-called Alpenhaus , which was destroyed by fire in 1945 . Here relics of the old inventory, remains of the earlier roof construction and the trees that have been growing on the roof of the building for over 60 years are almost within reach. Information boards along the path explain the history of the various buildings of the sanatoriums and the variety of plants in the forest park. Shortly before the end of the treetop path, there is another access near the northeast corner of the Alpenhaus, but only via stairs.

At about half the length of the treetop path, there is an emergency staircase south of the Alpenhaus as a possible escape route.

Observation tower

Observation tower of the Beelitz-Heilstätten treetop path

In the north-western part of the area, a striking eye-catcher is a 40.5 m high, steel- built observation tower with a triangular floor plan, the five levels of which can be reached with an elevator or a staircase around the elevator shaft. The treetop path is accessed from the third level of the tower at a height of 21.6 m. The top fifth level at 36 m height serves as a viewing platform . There are information boards on the surrounding buildings and a telescope. From here you have a very good view of the extensive grounds of the sanatoriums and, with good visibility, to Fläming in the south and Berlin in the north.

The observation tower is located at 67.4  m above sea level. NN Höhe, was opened after a construction period of three months on September 11, 2015 and stands on a 280 m² foundation, for which around 700 tons of concrete were used. The total weight of the tower is 170 tons and its construction costs amounted to 1 million euros. There are a total of 200 steps to climb up to the upper viewing platform.

additional

In addition to the independent exploration of the entry-based area with the treetop path, various guided tours with visits to buildings worth seeing as well as the forest park are offered. As a further tourist highlight, a barefoot park next to the adventure area is accessible from May to September.
