Lloy James Ball (born February 17, 1972 in Fort Wayne ) is an American volleyball player . He took part in the Olympic Games four times and won the gold medal in Beijing in 2008 . Ball is considered one of the best players of his time and was inducted into the "Volleyball Hall of Fame" in 2015.
Career
Lloy Ball is the son of volleyball coach Arnie Ball. He began his career at home at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne . With the national team , Ball was third in the World Cup in Greece in 1994 , was in the final of the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata in 1995 and took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , in which the United States finished ninth. Subsequently, the Japanese first division club Toray Arrows signed the setter for three years. With the national team he won the NORCECA championship in 1999 . At his second Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , Ball finished eleventh with the USA. He then played for the Italian first division club Casa Modena , with whom he became national champion in 2002 and won the European CEV Cup in 2004. With the national team, Ball was again NORCECA champion in 2003 and took part in his third Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 , in which the USA took fourth place. He then played for two years in the Greek league with Iraklis Thessaloniki . In the first season he was Greek champion and reached the final of the Champions League against Tours VB in front of a local crowd . In 2006 he was again in the Champions League final before he left Greece and moved to the Russian club VK Zenit-Kazan . In the first season with the US setter, Kazan made the national double. The US team defended the continental title with ball. In 2008 Kazan won the Champions League final against Copra Piacenza . Ball experienced his fourth Olympic tournament after triumphing in the world league and won the gold medal in Beijing when his team beat Brazil in the final . For Kazan there was again the double in 2009 and two more championship titles in 2010 and 2011. In addition, Ball and Kazan were again in the 2011 Champions League final against Trentino BetClic . He then moved to league rivals Ural Ufa , where he ended his professional career in 2012.

Ball is married and has two children.
