James Straus

James Satoru Straus is a special effects artist .

Life

Straus started his career in television in 1991. After initially working as an animator for Hanna-Barbera and Warner Brothers , he switched to Disney that same year , where he worked as an animator on the cartoon series Darkwing Duck and Goofy and Max . In 1993 he switched to film, making his debut with Jurassic Park . For Industrial Light & Magic he worked on Jumanji and Dragonheart, among others . His later effect works include the superhero film X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the literary adaptation Alice in Wonderland . In the course of his career, Straus has worked for directors such as John Woo , Tim Burton , Brett Ratner and Steven Spielberg .

1997 he worked for Rob Cohen's fantasy film Dragonheart together with Scott Squires , Phil Tippett and Kit West for the Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects nominated, but the award this year went to Roland Emmerich's science fiction film Independence Day . For Dragonheart he was also nominated for the Saturn Award , but here too he went empty-handed.
