Scott Squires

Scott Squires (* 1956 ) is a special effects artist who has been nominated three times for an Oscar in the category of Best Visual Effects .

Life

He grew up in a small town in Indiana , where he worked as a newspaper photographer and projectionist while in high school . After graduating from high school, he moved to Los Angeles to work as Douglas Trumbull's assistant on the feature film Close Encounters of the Third Kind .

In 1982 he co-founded the special effects company Dream Quest Images , which was later bought by the Walt Disney Company . After six years he switched to Industrial Light & Magic where he worked for twenty years as a VFX supervisor and commercial manager. During that time, he was nominated three times for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects , 1995 for The Mask , 1997 for Dragonheart and 2000 for Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace . He currently works as a freelance VFX supervisor in Los Angeles and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
