history

The BKM - Bausparkasse Mainz AG was founded on September 15, 1930 by three architects as "Bau- und Aktiengesellschaft Bausparkasse Mainz" in Ebersheimer Weg in Mainz-Oberstadt . The basic idea was to combine an own house program with financing . In 1934 the company was renamed "Bausparkasse Mainz Aktien-Gesellschaft". In 1936, the BKM moved into its own company building on Römerwall in Mainz and employed 60 people in the office. By 1938 the company had financed 3,000 houses with around 29 million RM and by 1940 the total had doubled to 58.94 million RM.

In 1950 the Mainz institute ranked second among the private building societies. In the 1960s, the company began advising clients on home ownership and retirement planning.

Later, in addition to building society loans , mortgage financing and an own house program were offered. Started with the Jacobi-Haus, houses in various self-made designs followed. Here, building owners were able to replace the lack of equity with their own contribution. In 1961 a range of prefabricated houses was added in cooperation with Alpine-Holzindustrie GmbH. In 1979, 18,000 iso-span houses had been sold. In 1982, the BKM founded the subsidiary "Mainzer Haus Vertriebs GmbH", which today operates as "BKM ImmobilienService GmbH" in the real estate brokerage sector. The Mainz institute was one of the first companies to offer high-interest tariffs and waived fixed allocation periods. In 1966 the 100,000 building society account was opened and six years later the 200,000 building society account was opened. In the 1980s, BKM was the first building society to introduce an “option tariff”, under which customers can change the repayment and savings interest after the contract has been signed. A sales force founded for Turkish-speaking, Italian and Portuguese customers has been providing advice in their native language since 1988.

Through a partnership with the INTER insurance group, the BKM field staff has also been brokering insurance and pension products since 1993. In 2001, the financial services provider introduced online home savings. The Mainz institute has reached further customer groups since 2002 with the investment products maxTagesgeld, maxFestgeld, maxSparbrief, maxAuszahlplan, and maxPluszins. The “maxflex” building society tariff followed in 2004. In 2008, the BKM expanded its range with home-ownership products. Since 2013, customers of the "maxLine" building society tariff have been able to choose between fixed or market-oriented interest rates.
