Bawai Soro

Bawai Soro (born March 3, 1954 in Kirkuk , Iraq ) is an Iraqi clergyman and bishop of the Chaldean Catholic eparchy Mar Addai of Toronto .

Life

Bawai Soro received in on 21 February 1982 Assyrian Church of the East , the sacrament of Holy Orders . On October 21, 1984 Soro received his episcopal ordination . He became Bishop of the Assyrian Church of the East for the western United States . Bawai Soro was also responsible for ecumenism in the Assyrian Church of the East . On 31 October 2008 Bawai Soro was on a gathering in Iraq Synod of the Assyrian Church of the East excommunicated . Soro then converted to the Chaldean Catholic Church. Bawai Soro has since performed pastoral duties in the eparchy of Saint Peter the Apostle of San Diego .

Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Foratiana on January 11, 2014 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the eparchy of Saint Peter the Apostle of San Diego.

On October 31, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Mar Addai of Toronto. The inauguration took place on November 29 of the same year.

On September 14, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Consultor of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches .
