The Eparchy Saint Peter the Apostle of San Diego was established on May 21, 2002 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Nuper Synodus from cessions of territory of the Eparchy Saint Thomas the Apostle of Detroit . First Bishop was Sarhad Yawsip Hermiz Jammo .
