The eparchy Saint Thomas the Apostle of Detroit ( Latin Eparchia Sancti Thomas Apostoli Detroitensis Chaldaeorum ) is a US -based eparchy of the Chaldean Catholic Church with its seat in Southfield . It includes the states : Alabama , Arkansas , North Carolina , South Carolina , Connecticut , Delaware , Florida , Georgia , Illinois , Indiana , Iowa , Kentucky , Louisiana , Maine , Maryland , Massachusetts , Minnesota , Michigan , Mississippi , Missouri , New Hampshire , New Jersey , New York , Ohio , Pennsylvania , Rhode Island , Tennessee , Vermont , Virginia , West Virginia , Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia .

history

Pope John Paul II founded the Apostolic Exarchate of the United States of America with the Apostolic Constitution Quo aptius on January 11, 1982. Ibrahim Namo Ibrahim has been the local ordinary since it was founded .

On August 3, 1985, it was elevated to an eparchy and given its current name. On May 21, 2002, part of the territory was ceded to the establishment of the Eparchy Saint Peter the Apostle of San Diego .
